If you're a vegetarian in Austin, everyone knows there's one place you can't miss: Mother's Café & Garden. When I go out to eat, I'm so used to scanning the menu and quickly picking out the one or two things I can have as a vegan, or worse, the one thing I can have after I ask them to remove all the offending foodstuffs, that I was overwhelmed by this menu! I'm sure you can relate.
The food was fabulous, and the atmosphere friendly with an upbeat and knowledgeable wait staff. You might think all veg restaurants would be small and not all that busy. Not true here! The place is huge and packed, one of the most popular eateries in Austin...and here's why - take a look at the list of what we had to eat:
- Lucy: Tofu Lasagna
- John: Avocado Sandwich with Blueberry Pie and Ice Cream for dessert
- Michael: Jamaican Stir-Fry
- Susan: Tofu Enchiladas
- Crescent: Bueno Burger
- Rosie: Avocado Salad
- Dan: Veggie Plate with Rice & Black-Eyed Peas
- Me: Spinach Salad with Cashew-Tamari Dressing and Carrot Juice
Talk about selection! And the food is as good as it sounds, I promise you. On your next stop through Austin, don't miss this place. It's located at 4215 Duval St (not Rd!!), Austin, TX 78751. Phone: 512-451-3994.
