Make Yer Own Stinkin' Tortilla Chips!

By Stephanie Scarborough

Yes, you too can make your own @#*% crispy, salty, spicy baked tortilla chipps for cheap, cheap, cheap. First, get some of the cheapest corn tortillas you can. I bought a 51-cent bag of white corn tortilla chips at my Mrs. Baird's Thrift Store. Preheat your oven to 450F and cut each tortilla into four wedges. This goes faster if you stack them when you cu them. Lightly oil one or two baking sheets. Place your tortilla wedges on the baking sheets, lightly spray with oil (you can use a nonstick spray like Pam, if you have it, or put oil in a plastic squirt bottle). Sprinkle with salt, chili powder, onion powder, or any other spices you like. Bake in the oven for 5-7 minutes (keep an eye on them). Remove them from the oven, flip all the chips over, and bake for another 5-7 minutes. When they turn golden, they're done. If you don't cook them long enough, they end up kind of chewy. If you cook them too long, they're burnt. During the last 5-7 minutes, you really need to watch them. My 51-cent bag of tortillas made 144 tasty tortilla chips.
