The artist Nicole Whitney has done the classic "find a niche and fill
it" by her creative new website Palomapottery.com - turning trash to
cash!
It is a site for her creations of 100 percent recycled infused glass and
pottery. She makes many beautiful designs and products, from jewelry to
clocks, wall art and tiles. The pieces are all completely hand made and unique.
Nicole says she is strongly influenced by her environment, and has a
strong commitment to recycling, and as such she is always searching for
ways to use what might be considered "trash." She was inspired to begin
recycling glass in her pottery and collects it from wherever trash is
often left as well as re-using her own recyclable glass. Her
always-changing collection of broken glass, stained glass pieces and
other "so-called trash" is transformed into the lovely pieces on her
website.
The "crackle-glass" pieces, while looking delicate, are actually very
durable, and while not appropriate for use with food items, they are
heat resistant (thus, candleholders, coasters, and incense burners),
are strong enough to be stepped on (stepping stones), and clean easily.
One really needs to visit the website to truly get a sense of the
beauty and uniqueness of her pieces. Aside from the above, she also
offers clocks, tiles, wall art, a ring holder, and jewelry.
The colors are vibrant and full of depth; a wide range of blues, browns
and greens become reminiscent of deep oceans, wide skies and tall
trees. She also incorporates natural objects (rocks, shells) into many
of her pieces.
The prices are quite reasonable, and Nicole also enjoys and encourages
customizing orders.
A great gift idea (for yourself too!) especially for those
"hard-to-buy-for" people. Visit her website, www.palomapottery.com or email her at nicolewhitney@peoplepc.com. Also sold in stores in Washington, NY, Kentucky and Florida (shop locator online).
