If you have ever lost an animal companion, even for a short time, you know the devastating feeling and panic which quickly sets in. As you look for your stray animal companion numerous questions fill your head. Is she alright? Where did she go? Will I ever see her again? Sadly, many dogs, cats and other animals who go missing never see their human families again.

When it comes to your "best friend," a good identification tag is worth its weight in gold. Tags that can be quickly traced can not only minimize stress for the lost animal and her human guardians, it can save her life!

To help reunite lost or stray animal companions with their families, The Humane Society of Canada has created its Pet Recovery Team. This program is made up of an identification tag and The Humane Society of Canada's toll-free phone number (which works in North America). One side of the tag contains the animal's name and her human guardian's phone number. The other side of the tag has a serial number, which is keyed to information for each animal, along with the phone numbers of The Humane Society of Canada - including their toll-free number. For animal companions who are lost outside of North America, The Humane Society of Canada accepts collect calls from anywhere in the world so that lost pets can be reunited with their families.

Equipping your animal companion with this important protection is easy - and it's free! To enroll pets in this program all that you have to do is register, and this can be done either online at www.humanesociety.com or by phoning 1-800-641-KIND (5463). Information about your animal companions can be updated at any time and lost or damaged tags will be replaced for free. When it comes to protecting your furred family members you can never be too careful and the Pet Recovery Team might just reunite you with your best friend some day.
