I never was a big fan of trading cards before. My daughter's friend told me stories of how his teacher collects them if he catches kids with them in class and burns them! I had a hard time commiserating with the outraged children, because up until now I simply could not see any benefit at all in card collecting of evil monsters and sword-carrying avengers. I mean, whatever happened to good old baseball cards?
Then along came U Go Grl cards and totally turned my opinion upside-down. From the moment my daughter opened the package, she was hooked...and so was I. We spent a solid two hours reading the cards, sorting them into piles, trying the brainteasers and tricks and discussing the cute and fun tidbits of information. The characters on these cards are no silly, meaningless creatures. They are girls, solid role models that I'm proud to have my daughter read about and emulate.
Each card has a different girl of a different race with her own unique personality. The cards come in six different categories, and each one embodies a different type of learning experience. Go Figure offers mind games. Go Mingle is all about communication. Here's what Kalli, age seven, had to say about them:
Kalli:
On the front of each card is a girl and each girl has a name, like Sarah and Stacey and Kayla and the twins, Lauren and Lexie, etc. Each girl has a different personality and hair color and skin color (except for Lauren and Lexie!).
On the back of each card are things to do like games or things to learn, etc. I have 38 of the cards. I want to collect every single one!
I like that they have nice girls and that you can trade with other people. I like all the girls, but my favorite category is Go Mingle because it's cool. Go Mingle is all about communicating: sign language and telephones and body language and shopping with friends and giving gifts. There's one of the girls I like, Courtney, because she teaches you how to make a present, and I think that's nice.
I like the category Go Figure because there's this card I saw that has this magic trick. It's about mind reading and I did it to my grandma. My grandma thought it was really cool. So did my dad!
Now I'm going to name the other categories:
- Go Active is about sports. There's a girl called Megan. She plays soccer.
- Go Primp is about decorating and beauty. And there's one that has a hamster and it tells how the hamster cleans itself!
- Go Create is about making things and taking pictures and colors and decorating.
- Go Basic is about the daily things in life, like cooking.
If you want to learn more about these cards, visit their fun website and play some games! We guarantee girls 7-13 will love it - we sure do!
