When I received the sample of Wellements Gripe Water, my first thought was that I would need to find someone else to do the product review since I don't have a newborn. Then the other night my four-year-old woke with stomach pains. She'd had a sleepless night ("I'm too hot"..."I'm cold now"..."I'm thirsty"), so when she said, "My stomach hurts," I honestly didn't believe her at first. Soon, however, her tossing and turning and moaning convinced me something was wrong. About 20 minutes and several more complaints later, I decided to investigate. She said she didn't feel like throwing up, and she didn't have to go to the bathroom, but her belly was a little distended, so I figured it must be gas.
It was 4:30 in the morning, and I went over in my mind all the natural remedies I could think of. Then I remembered the sample of Wellements Gripe Water and thought if it works for colic, maybe it would work for gas. I went to read the box, and sure enough, it said, "Eases discomfort from stomach upsets, gas, teething, hiccups..." There was even a dosage suggestion for adults. I figured it couldn't hurts, since it's all natural with extracts of ginger, fennel, and chamomile. Best of all, it's free of preservatives like methylparaben and polyparaben, and it contains no alcohol or sucrose. I gave her a dose, and she said it tasted good. Then I went to the kitchen for some water.
When I got back she was sitting there on the couch as if nothing had happened, looking perfectly calm. I asked how her stomach was, did it hurt. She said no. Beginning to suspect this was all a ploy to get out of bed and watch TV in the middle of the night, I asked her when it stopped hurting. "When you gave me that stuff," she replied. Back to bed and ok for the night!
Fast forward to the next night, same thing. She woke up with a tummy ache. I went and got the Gripe Water, gave her a dose, and we all went back to sleep. I'm officially converted. If your child suffers from gastrointestinal type problems, or you have a colicky infant, I encourage you to try this! I'm going to try it on hiccups next, then for relieving car sickness.
