The team of Andrea Allen (a mother and certified yoga teacher) and Trevor Allen (a father, musician and singer) have created Kids Musical Yoga.

"Fairy Princess Andreanna" (Andrea) and Talon the Musical Helper (Trevor) create a magical world of children's yoga and catchy, original songs, appropriate for children ages 1-6+. By incorporating music into the mix, they make it accessible to children as young as 12 months old, while still keeping it interesting and fun for older children.

The videos (available on VHS or DVD) begin with simple breathing exercises (like using your big breath to "blow up a balloon"). They introduce the fundamental concepts of breathing and stretching in a way that is both fun and teaches the importance of being fully present in their bodies.

Then the Princess, her Helper, and a fairy "transport" children to different imaginative locations, such as the jungle, the ocean and the desert. In these magical worlds, children join in KMY's interactive chant-response format, discovering different animals while they sing and do both traditional and experimental yoga poses.

I found it very easy to follow along, and my kids love to watch and move to it. Andrea and Trevor are both very personable and vibrant on camera. They seem very knowledgable and able to teach and share the fundamentals of yoga with energetic toddlers and young children. The videos are a lively and spirited way to have kids experience on their own why it feels good to move, stretch and breathe as well as continuing a pattern through which children will later interact with their world.

KMY's tapes (vhs or dvd) include "Lets Go To the Ocean" and "Let's Go To the Jungle", each about 35 minutes long.

A Combo- music only CD with both the "Ocean" and "Jungle" Soundtracks plus 2 bonus titles is also available. Visit their website at www.kidsmusicalyoga.com.
